COMMUNITY GROUPS
Don we now our gay apparel
by John Dellemanna
Well it's time once again to don our gay apparel, and trudge (In the snow again? ... Let's hope not!) up to see the North Coast Men's Chorus' Holiday Concert. The social butterflies of the Chorus have given up not one, but two weekend nights to perform for you this year.
Because of how busy we are at this time of the year, it saddened our musical hearts to think that some of you would miss our performance because of your office holiday party. Not wanting you to give up a free meal with your boss at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant (Yikes!) or a possible free

CLEVELAND OHIO
But enough "poor poor pitiful us." We have decided to have our holiday concerts two nights this year for one very good reason. For you! For the men and women of the Cleveland gay community, we want to say the following:

but twice.
The dates are Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16. The concert will be held at the Euclid Avenue Congregational Church, Euclid at East 96th St in Cleveland, at 8:00 pm both nights. Tickets are $12 in advance from any chorus member or Advantix (phone 216-2416000 or 800-766-6048), and $15 at the door. There is free lighted parking next to the church.
We are truly excited about this year's offerings. There will be something for everyone's tastes. We have divided the chorus into two choirs for the first piece called "Fanfare for Christmas." By so doing our director has created an impressive, almost haunting effect, sort of a 50-man surround sound. Run with that fantasy, all ye who dare! Once we've got you up, we can't let you down just yet as we work the crowd with the rousing "Ring Out Wild Bells" by Ronald Nelson. In this piece, our Coastliners accompanist Melora Meadows shows her virtuosity, as she joins our chorus accompanist Bruce Shewitz in a piano for four hands accompaniment. Randall Thompson's "Alleluia" is the most recent addition to our classical repertoire, and has consistently been very well received by our audiences. We continue the program with another Thompson work heretofore only performed by the Coastliners. We think you will be touched by our rendition of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." We loosen things up just a bit with "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Once loosened up, you will fall apart when you hear our redefinition of the word "camp" as we perform "The Fight Before Christmas." The premise is... a se-
cret.
Other than the obvious, (exquisite music, artfully performed, and 50 hot men in tuxes), we have to have some secrets to entice you to come see us. After intermission, we will perform an 18th century "shape note" piece called "Sherburne." Suffice it to say you've never heard the Chorus sing quite like this! In the African-American tradition of the spiritual, we intend to focus the audience again with a dynamic "Go Tell it on the Mountain." Because one can never have enough schmaltz, it's Victor Herbert to the rescue with the beloved "Toyland." We welcome soloist Sara Lindberg as she joins us in performing "Christmas Flourish." To round out the holiday season, we will also perform two majestic Chanukah works.
Of course tumultuous applause may just get you an encore or two, but they too must remain secrets. One thing is no secret: You will all enjoy yourselves no matter what your tastes in music if you join Tim Robson and the North Coast Men's Chorus as we "Sing the Dream."
